We are tremendously proud of our students’ recent achievements:

  • Jenna Abdelhadi and Benjamin Cummins were Finalists in the 2014 International Clarinet Association Orchestral Competition.
  • Cheyenne Bland Cruz’s recent appointment as Adjunct Instructor of Clarinet at Stephen F. Austin State University.
  • Bobby Lapinski’s performance in “Pierrot Lunaire” at the Austrian Cultural Center in New York City.
  • UNT undergraduate and graduate clarinetist Music Education graduates have a100% job placement rate.

We are immensely proud of our alumni and their myriad accomplishments.  Recent highlights include:

  • Sara Marsh Canning recently won the Principal Clarinetist position of the Tucson Symphony Orchestra.
  • Kristen Thompson and Rucha Trivedi were the only American finalists in the 2014 International Clarinet Association Young Artist Competition.
  • Andrea Harrell, Kellie Lignitz, and Dawn Lindblade were Finalists in the 2014 International Clarinet Association Research Competition.
  • Elizabeth Gorman presented the session “"What Every Classical Clarinetist Needs to Know About Jazz" at the International Clarinet Association ClarFest Conference in Baton Rouge in August 2014.
  • Deanna Brizgys was a finalist in the 2014 International Clarinet Association Orchestral Competition.
  • Rucha Trivedi’s recent appointment as “Reserve Method Clinician” for the D’Addario Corporation for the MidAtlantic states.
  • Andrea Harrell’s recent appointment at Adjunct Instructor of Clarinet at Sam Houston State University.
  • Dimity Perevertailenko’s recent appointment as Instructor of Clarinet at Tarleton State University
  • Scott Wilson joined United States Navy Fleet Band.

Our alumni teach in colleges and universities throughout the U.S. and perform in service bands and symphony orchestras throughout the U.S.

We are proud to host a wide variety of guest artists on campus.  In 2013-14, we featured Mark Simons (McGill University, Montreal, Canada); Robert Spring (Arizona State University); Wesley Ferreira (Colorado State University); and Victoria Luperi (Principal Clarinetist of the Ft. Worth Symphony Orchestra), In 2013, Mark Nuccio (New York Philharmonic) joined us on campus for a week of rehearsals and performances that culminated in recordings of Artie Shaw’s Concerto and Scott McAllister’s Black Dog with our Wind Symphony.  Assistance from the Charn Uswachoke International Development Fund facilitated the College of Music’s Festival Brasileiro that featured Brazilian clarinetists Ricardo Freire (University of Brasilia) and Johnson Machado (Federal University of Goias).  Other recent guests include Jeremy Reynolds (University of Denver); Diane Cawein Barger (University of Nebraska-Lincoln); Chad Burrow (University of Michigan); and Eric Mandat (Southern Illinois University).

We welcome high school clarinetists to join us June 24-27, 2015 for our 4th annual ClarEssentials workshop, four days of events designed especially for high school students; masterclasses, clinics, and recitals presented by University of North Texas faculty members John Scott, Kimberly Cole Luevano, Deborah Fabian, and Daryl Coad. This year we are excited to inaugurate our ClarEssentials Middle School Workshops in June at area high schools.  Please stay tuned for further information.  Click on the link above for further information.
